above 1. The blue and green quilt layout used two different fabrics for the central four square patches. The blocks are tilted one way for the blue blocks and the other for the green.

above 2.This second orange and blue layout uses one block coloring throughout and merely rotates the block to form the pattern.

above 3. This third blue, rose and gray layout uses two variations of fabrics for the hourglass block and arranges them into a central medallion layout. This one is my favorite of the three.

     

 

This very simple variation on a traditional 9-Patch (by adding 2 half square triangle units) can look amazingly different with changes in color and layout in a quilt top. Here are three different options from the many possible. This block is a good one to experiment with on graph paper.
