In this Part 8 Assembling the pairs into larger units
To review information about rotary cutting, review the tips and links here.Assemble
Pairs into Larger Units
Last time in Part 7 you
made larger units from the pairs sewn
from the 9 Patch Blocks - now you put them into larger units and then into the full top.
Now: If you have Part 7 from the last installment printed out you will need to look at it as you assemble these pairs into larger sections. If you didn't print it out you may want to open Part 7 in a 2nd window of your browser. [To do this click on File-New at the top of the screen and open a 2nd Window. Once it is open click on this link to Open Part 7.] You can now go back and forth between the two windows if you need to reference the pairs of blocks you made last time.
1A. Take a pair from #1 of Part 7 and connect it to a pair from #3 to make a group of 4 like this:

2A. Now take a pair from #2 and sew it to the
bottom to make a unit 3 pairs high like this:

3A. Now you will use one of those
"leftover" A-Blocks. Make a vertical strip of a #1 pair and an A Block to look
like this:

4A. Assemble the 9-block group by sewing the Group from 2A and vertical 3A set to make this group. Make FOUR of these groups as shown:

1B. Take a pair from #1 of Part 7 and connect it to a pair from #4 to
make a group of 4 like this:

2B-3B-4B. Do the same steps as in #2A-3A above.
The only difference here is the center block. Otherwise this group of 9 looks the same as
in 4A. You will make only one of these. Your finished block will look
like this:

1C. Take a pair from #5 of Part 7 and connect it to a pair from #7 of Part 7 to make a group of 4 like this:
![]() ![]() |
2C. Now take a pair from #6 in Part 7 and sew it to the bottom to make a unit 3 pairs high like this:
![]() ![]() ![]() |
3C. Now you will use the last 4 extra A-Blocks. You will make a vertical strip of a #5 pair and an A Block to look like this:
![]() ![]() |
4C. Assemble the 9-block group by sewing the Group from 2C and vertical 3C set to make this group. Make FOUR of these groups as shown:

FINALLY - You are ready to ASSEMBLE the TOP!
The Final Part 9 is here - Border Ideas
